Respect is when someone treats you with kindness and love along with the strong bond of trust and honor whereas fear is the feeling or condition of being afraid of someone you don’t know much about whether the threat growing inside you is real or just an imaginary one. Albert Campus, a French philosopher, once said, “Nothing is more despicable than respect based on fear.” Likewise, for any person to give respect, it should come from the inner self not by threat. ‘Fear’ and ‘Respect’ are two different perspectives by which people obey others but sometimes may be attached to a certain level. For instance, a child will obey his father as he respects him but will also have a low level of emotional fear.
Fear towards a person makes you feel afraid of their action and you will have the feeling of the intimation towards that person. Physical fear leads to people following others as they are scared that they will hurt them. Fear tries to find the way of getting respect in a very twisted way. Fear is something that destroys the self confidence whereas respect enhances the self confidence. Respect is totally willful and voluntary and a person gives respect on the basis of what he feels in the others. They built a trust on them and feel secure on their supervision, as a result they feel they are trustworthy and respect them. Fear is gained by learning. Respect can be earned and it is our choice whether we have it or lose it.
In conclusion, respect leads to people creating a trust and understanding towards other while fear creates recognition that someone or something has the potential to harm us and nothing else. So, if we have to choose between fear and respect, respect is obvious option for us as it will lead us to develop our personality in the society and have a glorious life. People need to give respect in order to get respect and look upon people equally and not letting them feel pressurized. As a result, people will respect you.
